Babies in 1971 were tough. They did not need much padding to protect them. All they needed was a lot of cold hard steel and cold vinyl. On the standard model you could deform the kid by strapping its ankles down.

This potty seat includes a vinyl restraining strap. Yes, it used to be okay to strap the kid onto the potty seat until it did its duty. None of this waiting until the kid decides when he is ready stuff that is advocated today. Back in the old days, the parents decided when children were to be potty trained. Somehow, most of the kids turned out to be productive, decent adults.
